Don't you love Spring?

I love late spring. My flowers are blooming, and we start spending a lot of time outside working on the yard and garden.

I'd rather work outside than inside any day.

We usually have success with our square foot garden.

We already have radishes, green beans, lettuce and cucumber coming up.

We always have tons of tomatoes to make salsa, and spaghetti sauce.

This year I am going to try to train them to grow up a trellis instead of growing wild.

We are also trying regular long row gardening this year for corn and potatoes.

We borrowed a gardening book from friends who plant right in the same sandy dirt that we have with wonderful results. The book has a secret recipe for a fertilizer mix that you apply to dirt before planting and while growing. It includes Epsom salt and Borax among other things. We'll see what gardening method works better.

It appears that our strawberries will do well this year. They are full of blooms. We have a couple unusual things growing too. Our upside down tree. Alright, not really but last year we thought this tree died because it looked like this. Almost pulled it out of the ground but then Blake noticed leaves growing out of the ground at the bottom of the tree. We cut off the dead part on top and it grew the length of the dead part you see in the picture. Looks like that is what it is doing this year. The poor tree will never get a head if it has to start over every year from the ground.

Here's our lilac bush that we planted from a root ball a few years ago. The leaves are brand new and already curling up. It did it last year too. Not sure why. This year we actually had a few flowers on the bush.

The kids love the dirt and mud. There's always a nice dirt ring in the tub to prove it.
